How To Send DTMF (*123#) Request On Nokia N900

When ever I update my Nokia N900 firmware first I look for the DTMF support on my N900 but till now Nokia haven’t integrated it on the latest firmware too. But someone has developed an application to use DTMF on our mobile to check our credit details and named it as “USSD Pad”. It can also be used as a widget on our Nokia N900.
The developer has released the application in the Extras Devel catalog, so just add Extras Devel Catalog to your Nokia N900 application manager and search for “USSD” and install it.
No need to follow the bellow manual installation.
This application have to be installed manually on our Nokia N900. To install it on our Nokia N900 we need the X Terminal on our N900.
Tutorial: -
Step 1: – Download the zip file from your here at DTMF for N900 to your PC.
Step 2: – Open X Terminal and type sudo gainroot and hit enter
after that type cd MyDocs (case sensitive, so use M and D caps) and hit enter.
Step 3: – keep the X Terminal alive, Unzip the downloaded zip file in step 1 and copy all the files to Nokia N900/
Do not create any new folder here.
Step 4: -Open the X Terminal, here we need to install all the copied files manually via the X Terminal, to install the files just type
dpkg -i file name.deb
like dpkg -i hildon-desktop-python-loader_0.1.0-1maemo2_armel.deb
(file name should be matched)
repeat the above procedure and install all the 6 files manually.
Configure: -
After the successful installation you can find a widget on your N900 desktop, just tab on the desktop and enter into its settings and find the field USSD number and enter the DTMF number, example *123# (depends on your network), after that just save it.

after installing it , you can find a widget on your desktop. On the desktop just tab on the desktop (not on the widget) and click manage wheel on the right corner on the desktop, here you can find a settings button on the DTMF widget click on it after that enter the DTMF number along with the * and # as indicated in the post title and save it.
Form now onwards you can check your credit details from tabing on the widget or you can send the request from the USSD Pad application on your Nokia N900.

X Terminal is an application to use command line instructions on the N900. To use it just open it and type the commands as instructed above.
Its ok i found the X Terminal
But now When i am doing the procedure its writing this message:
dpkg: requested operation requires a superuser privilege
What do i have to do now i continue installing the 6 files or there is something else to do ????

you may skipped the step 2, so follow the procedure as it is, i followed the above procedure to install it and i have installed successfully and i am using it on my N900.
i did not skip the second step
when i wrote it i received this message :
Enable RD mode if you want to break your device.
So what shall i do now

it is like accessing some hidden files and it won’t harm your device. Follow the above procedure to install it.
i will tell this info may be its the cause
i’ve sent the files via bluetooth is it good or i have to copy using the usb cable ?

it may not be the problem, have you updated your firmware to the latest version?
If you are using the latest version then just use the usb cable and have a try.

hi sony, i followed all the instructions but i didn’t find any widget on my desktop and i don’t know how to make the application work. so please could you help me ASAP because i really need the DTMF.

have you found any new application named like “USSD PAD” in the more applications?
ussd-pad depends on python-osso. what can i do? the widget is working but i think the pad is much more reliable. PLEASE HELP ME
you can access the pad from the more menu.

okay this is not a big problem. after installing it , you can find a widget on your desktop. those are not sis files, okay do one thing,

After did it just open your application manager on your Nokia N900 and just tab on update after the update just tab on download then search for “USSD”, you can see one application here, then just install it.

Hey sony, i have installed the used widget and all the other stuff u did, but for the used used pad installation it keeps telling me i need python osso. what to do pls?

Have you updated your firmware to PR1.2?
If not just update it, Nokia have integrated the DTMF service in this firmware update. So after updating we can dial *any number#.
